App development – don’t forget the message
Centagon can help you bridge the gap between technical complexity and content production by offering solutions for both, without jeopardizing the value of the communication. We make App building cost-effective and customer-focused.
Apps for tablets are hot. Many of our customers are asking us to build B2B applications for tablets.
A complex landscape
The tablet channel is a relatively new channel, meaning that the technologies used for these tablets are in constant evolution. iOS, Android, and new OS systems pop-up as the market and technology evolve at a dazzling speed.
Building an App is therefore a process that needs careful consideration. So, what are the implications of each decision you make in the process?
Instead of building Apps just for the sake of the App, Centagon is constantly seeking the right reasons to make it a worthwhile exercise, from both a financial and a customer-effective point of view.
All standard Marketing Communication rules can be applied to developing content and functionality for this channel. Who is your audience, what is your proposition and why should customers do business with you?
However, in situations where new technologies are being introduced to the market, the complexity of technology always seems to be the most important focus point.
Maintaining focus
Centagon can help bridge the gap between technical complexity and content production by offering solutions for both, without jeopardizing the value of the communication. With extensive in-house experience on internet and multimedia technologies, a step to the mobile channel was an obvious step to take.
For the professional luminaries group of Philips Lighting we had already developed a Total Cost of Ownership Calculator tool for MASTERColour Elite, that could be distributed via the web and played as a stand-alone tool on PCs.
Can you convert this tool for tablets?
A logical question that followed after the release of the PC version was “can you convert this tool for tablets?”. A simple question, but not so simple answer. To begin with, as described above, not all tablets use the same technologies. Android, for example, is capable of presenting flash, but iOS from Apple is not. So, from a technology point of view, changes needed to be made to the source code. Next to the technology differences, interfacing is crucially important for the end-user experience. Interacting with a tool with just the touch of your fingertips is clearly different from interacting with a mouse. Developing the interface for a touch-screen requires a different approach and for that reason this project was redesigned to meet the exact requirements for the tablet experience.
The result was an easy to use Calculator tool, optimized specifically for tablets (both Android and iPad) without having to start the project from scratch.
Centagon is currently involved in the development of several new Apps. Check our website regularly to keep up to date with what’s happening!
